RRSA
RRSA stands for Rights Respecting School Award. Using the UNICEF Rights of the Child articles, our young people and the school community learn about children’s rights throughout the world. We are currently Silver award holders and are looking forward to working towards Gold level.
At St Agnes’ we are very passionate about looking after each other. As a Church of England primary school, we respect all cultures and faiths. Our school motto is ‘Love To Learn, Learn to do Well, Live Well Together.’ Reflecting on the UNICEF articles helps us understand how children deserve to be treated as important citizens and helps us to care for each other and live together respectfully in our school and local communities. It also help us stay informed about children who live all over the world as we learn about their situations, and about how we can help to make sure their rights are respected. Our School is a place where pupils are encouraged, when they see a lack of respect for children’s rights, to use their voices to make sure the UNICEF articles are promoted and acted upon in our own communities and globally.
Every member of our school community is involved in learning about and promoting children’s rights. Our School Council take the lead in keeping pupils informed about their rights and plan activities and assemblies to make sure we are regularly reminded of the responsibility we have to look after each other by respecting each other’s rights.
You can help by taking a look at the UNICEF Rights of the child poster and celebrating how you are respecting children’s rights in your own families. Looking out for and supporting RRSA events in school will also help us to show that respecting children’s rights is something we must all be involved in.
