Equality
At St Agnes CE Primary School, we firmly believe that children learn better and achieve more when they feel safe and happy and when they are stimulated by their curriculum. We wanted to embed this idea in all aspects of school life, so we set about creating our school vision for what this would look like.
We have a core set of values which we believe encapsulate this:
Love to Learn, Learn to Do Well and Live Well Together
This shared vision was arrived at by engaging all stakeholders in the school and is promoted daily by the teaching and support staff across the school. Our Christian Values are at the center of everything we do at St Agnes CE Primary School. They help us to live out our Christian Vision of ‘life in all its fullness’ but this does not limit our understanding and promotion of others having the right to practice their own faith. Each half term, we focus on a different Christian Value, making links to our Peace Mala Commitments and Rights and Respecting Charters to support the children’s understanding of all three in action. This is done explicitly through our Collective Worship time, but also weaved throughout our curriculum and practiced in our daily lives. Children have regular opportunities to reflect on their behaviours and to develop an understanding of the rights of others.
Our Christian Values, Peace Mala Commitments and Rights and Respecting Charters are displayed around the school for all children have the opportunity to discuss them with their class and teachers and use them if they feel there has been some injustice or support their promotion of acceptance and tolerance. Pupil voice forms an important part of how we evaluate how well we are doing in providing an educational experience which lives up to our values.Legal Duties
As a school we welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010. The general duties are to:
- eliminate discrimination.
- advance equality of opportunities

We understand the principal of the act and the work needed to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.
A protected characteristic under the act covers the groups listed below:
- Age
- Disability
- Race
- Sex
- Gender reassignment
- Maternity and pregnancy
- Religion and belief
- Sexual orientation
- Marriage and civil partnership
In order to meet our general duties listed above, the law requires us to do some specific duties to demonstrate how we meet the general duties. These are to:
- publish equality information – to demonstrate compliance with the general duty across its functions. We will not publish any information that can specifically identify any child.
- prepare and publish equality objectives.
- To do this we have used the monitoring information gathered by the school on admissions, attendance, attainment, exclusions and parental involvement to determine our focus for our equality objectives.
Our Equalities Information and Objectives Policy can be found on our policies page.
